The benefit of this find goes beyond just getting an 80% discount on the cage. It goes to what is possible in very little space. This week two of what were chicks started laying so them plus my 3 hens that were already laying and I now am collecting 5 eggs per day. There are 5 more female chicks that should be laying within the next week or so. At that point they will provide a generous supply of eggs to replace my current store-bought egg consumption. I could be free to never buy eggs again! The other benefit of raising quail is that they are good meat sources. In just 6 weeks you have meal sized meat. The more I move towards personal sustainability and food sustainability I realize it is not that complicated. It takes some planning but with quail its an 8 week turn around time from fertilized egg to either egg production or meat or both! Quail are small enough a few can be raised like you would any other type of home dwelling bird! Something to think about...
If you visit me around breakfast time, guest what we'll be having?
